Job Title: Factory Cleaner

Reporting To: Production Team Leader

Location: Wessington Cryogenics Limited, Houghton le Spring, Tyne and Wear

Overall Aim:

The factory cleaner will be responsible for cleaning down machinery between production

The Factory Cleaner position is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and organised factory floor. This role involves regular cleaning tasks, waste management, and adherence to the 5S methodology to ensure optimal efficiency and workplace safety.

Key responsibilities:

Cleaning and Sanitisation:

  • Perform daily cleaning of the shop floor, including sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming.
  • Clean and sanitize workstations, equipment, and common areas.
  • Empty bins and manage waste disposal in accordance with factory protocols.
  • Restock cleaning supplies and notify the supervisor of any supply needs.

5S Methodology Implementation:

  • Sort: Regularly inspect the shop floor to identify and remove unnecessary items.
  • Set in Order: Ensure tools and materials are organised and stored in designated locations.
  • Shine: Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of all work areas and equipment.
  • Standardise: Follow and enforce standardised cleaning procedures and schedules.
  • Sustain: Promote and support ongoing adherence to 5S principles among all staff.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations while performing cleaning duties.
  • Report any safety hazards or maintenance issues to the supervisor immediately.
  • Participate in safety training sessions and drills.
  • Support Operations:
    • Assist with minor maintenance tasks as directed by the supervisor.
    • Collaborate with production teams to ensure a clean and efficient working environment.
    • Provide support during factory inspections and audits related to cleanliness and safety

 

Qualifications:

  • Education and Experience:
    • Previous experience in industrial cleaning is an advantage.
    • Familiarity with 5S methodology is highly desirable.

       

Skills and Abilities:

    • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Good communication skills to effectively interact with coworkers and

      supervisors.

Working Conditions:

    • The role requires standing, walking, bending, and lifting for extended periods.
    • Exposure to factory environments, including noise, dust, and varying temperatures.
    • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
