Malcolm West Charity Bike Ride 2023

Remembering our friend and colleague, Malcolm West.

In commemoration of Mal’s life and love of cycling, his friends at Wessington organised a charity bike ride to remember Mal and to raise money for a cause close to the hearts of him and his family.

All proceeds from their fundraising go to the Sunderland Renal Unit, where Malcolm’s brother-in-law Dave has attended for years while suffering with kidney failure.
Dave is not just Malcolm’s brother in law, they have been close friends since the age of 5. Dave spends hours of his week on dialysis just to keep his kidney functioning; and has been on the donor list for 4 years.
In recent weeks, Dave has been lucky enough to receive a kidney transplant and is recovering well from his operation.

We know Malcolm would have been there for him at this time, and we know he would want to support raising funds for this cause.
Sunderland Renal unit have cared for Dave for many years and Malcolm’s family are all very grateful for your donations.

The bike ride began from Kirkley Cafe in Ponteland, at Malcolm’s memory bench, before making the trip to Amble and back.

Gary Evans, Nick Weddle and others completed the 55 mile trip while Lauren White and Richard Herdman completed a 23 mile ride on a tandem bike!

Thank you to everyone who participated in the ride and for all your support and donations to the cause. Our fundraiser will be open until November 1st and all donations are extremely welcomed and appreciated! Please follow this link to donate: https://gofund.me/1b3bd1e1
